La Vista is a young Sarpy County city pressed against Omaha's south side, and City Centre is the part with a real sidewalk. The Astro Theater and its lawn are the civic stage. The blocks around 84th Street are where you eat.
The stroll is local kitchens: Lina's, Thai Orchid, Dragon Cafe, El Vallarta, and Wild Chicken Grill. Come for a show at the Astro, then walk to dinner.
The district is compact. One parking spot covers the avenue.
La Vista is one of Nebraska's newest cities, incorporated in 1960 as postwar development pushed southwest out of Omaha into Sarpy County. It grew rapidly from a small residential community into a full-fledged suburb along the Highway 370 and I-80 corridors. In recent years the city has redeveloped its core into City Centre, a mixed-use district of apartments, restaurants, and public spaces. The Astro Theater and its outdoor amphitheater opened as the district's marquee entertainment anchor. Today La Vista blends established neighborhoods with new development and a growing dining scene.
