The Old Market is the brick warehouse district where Omaha's produce trade gave way to galleries, dining rooms, and late nights. Howard, Jackson, and Jones still run the length of it, and the Passageway still cuts between the blocks.
Walk it hungry. Le Bouillon holds a French dining room and a wine shop on Howard, The Berry and Rye pours a few doors west, and Jackson Street has Ted & Wally's and Brickway. Upstream has been brewing on 11th Street since the 1990s, and M's Pub is open again at 422 South 11th after the fire.
Evenings fill the sidewalks. Cobblestones, iron fronts, and rooms that were built for crates now set tables.
The Old Market began as a wholesale fruit and vegetable market in the late 1800s. The brick warehouses along Howard and Jones streets housed produce dealers until the 1960s, when artists and entrepreneurs began converting the abandoned spaces into galleries and studios. A pivotal restoration movement in the 1970s preserved the cobblestone streets and iron facades that define the district today. The Passageway, M's Pub (before the 2015 fire), and the Artists Cooperative Gallery were early anchors that proved mixed-use urban revitalization could work.

200,000+ lights along the streets and buildings.
